Frida en Vivo

Flora Martínez as she will appear in Frida Libre at Manuel Artime Theater

Mexican artist and revolutionary Frida Kahlo is being brought back to the spotlight on September 7 at the Manuel Artime Theater’s stage as Frida Libre—a montage about the painter’s life behind the portraits and artworks. This musical monologue written, interpreted and directed by Flora Martínez does not focus on Frida’s art pieces but on who she was on the inside: her perspectives on feelings, suffering, mistakes, love, forgiveness and how she wants to change the world. The audience will witness Frida’s resurrection, where actress Martínez becomes a medium for the painter, six decades after her physical disappearance from earth. With over 125,000 spectators in Colombia, Mexico, Spain, Chile, Costa Rica and the U.S.A., Miami will enjoy this homage to one of the most important Latin American artists of the 20th century.
