All Well & Good

The peel-off-your-clothes oppressive heat the inescapable humidity. It’s been a cruel, cruel summer for our skin. From vino-powered facials to super-hydrating skincare products and even a picture-perfect gemstone facial, here are some ways to save face this season.

You’re a Gem

Get stoned- with a facial.

While the modern approach to aging is syringes of Botox and fillers, the ancient way is to use needles of a different kind. Elizabeth Trattner, a doctor of Chinese and integrative medicine who spent her early career working with a plastic surgeon, offers a gemstone facial coupled with cosmetic acupuncture-and it will be the most lnstagrammable facial of your life.

After a comprehensive consult, Trattner will select bright gemstones with different energy properties from an alabaster box, and then get to work on your face. She’ll tuck you into a warm bed made of 26 lbs. of amethyst, apply serums with prebiotics, pearl powder and essential oils to your face, and then perform what’s called ”gua sha,” a process by which she’ll vigorously run flat tools made of jade or rose quartz over your face and neck to sculpt, break up fascia, stimulate collagen and reduce puffiness. Next up: she’ll use a rose quartz roller, which is like a massage for the skin, to help with lymphatic draining, and microcurrent to lift, contour and stimulate new skin cells in the dermis. Finally, Trattner will apply approximately 20 thin needles in places like your crown and face to kick-start the body’s healing energies and increase circulation (which will eventually soften those wrinkles and fine lines), along with the beautifully hued gemstones like citrine, yellow and blue topaz, amethyst and green quartz. At the end of the almost two-hour treatment, you’ll be glowing and so relaxed it might be hard to
form a sentence. Of course, like most natural treatments, this is not a one-hit wonder; results are cumulative, and you’ll need a series of treatments to see results. Trattner is running a summer special where the initial gemstone facial with consult is $240 and follow-up facials are $200. 305.682.9358,

Beauty in a Bottle

This summer. It’s all about hydration. Celebrity hairstylist turned natural beauty guru Josh Rosebrook is all about pure, natural ingredients that actually do what they claim for your skin. He’s picked three of his top products to protect your face from the sun’s harsh rays while keeping it moisturized and clear.

“This new cream will moisturize skin and its natural, broadspectrum SPF 30 will protect you from the sun. This product mainly contains zinc oxide, which won’t clog your pores and cause breakouts.”

“This spray is a hydrator, toner and light moisturizer all in one. Infused with organic aloe water, it’ll plump, firm and cool off your skin. Use this immediately after cleansing and before applying your serums, moisturizers or SPi=s, as it reduces surface tension and allows the skin to better absorb the products that fol low.”
